We recently traveled to Boston, MA, to attend the 17th International Photodynamic Association World Congress. Barry, Collin and Yan each gave a talk. Barry presented on his work with designing photoimmuno-nanotherapy that utilizes nanoliposomal constructs to enhance photoimmunotherapy and target different cellular components. Yan presented on her work where she demonstrated that the photosensitizer, BPD, is a substrate for the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters P-gp and ABCG2, but not for the ABC transporter, MRP1. She also showed that porphyrin-lipid nanovesicles and lipidation of BPD bypass the P-gp and ABCG2 pumps, which are implicated in the development of PDT resistance. Collin presented his recent work on the development of photosensitizer-biomolecule hybrids and nanocrystals, with a focus on altered subcellular localization in order to better design combination treatments. In addition to attending the conference, Collin and Barry also spent time exploring some of Boston’s landmarks, including the Boston Public Garden and the Bunker Hill Monument.Comments are closed.
